SpineRide Canada

Renato and Brian launch

This past summer, the Canadian Paraplegic Association partnered with CycleSpine for the Spine Ride Canada Tour.

Spine Ride Canada is donating all funds generated by the trans Canada Tour to CPA.

The inspiration for the Tour was Vernon Brideau, thrown from the ATV he was driving after hitting a pothole. He broke his spine in three places, severed his spinal cord and was left paralyzed. This changed his life forever. It also changed the life of his brother, Brian, who together with Dr. Renato Alessandrini, a cardiologist at the Oshawa hospital. The pair set off to cycle across Canada to foster prevention awareness and to raise funds to support those already tragically affected by this disastrous condition.

The 6, 672-kilometre SpineRide Canada trek began on June 30th in Vancouver and wrapped up in Halifax on August 8th 2008, where the Brideau brothers were reunited. Though the trek met with its share of bumps in the road, it has been successful in raising both awareness and funds for CPA.

It is not too late to donate...
