Toronto Rehab Scholarship in Rehabilitation-related Research for Students with Disabilities

Deadline for 2008 applications has passed but mark your calendars for year

Make an Impact on Rehab Science
$20,000 scholarships available

Toronto Rehab is pleased to announce it is now accepting applications for
its innovative Scholarship in Rehabilitation-related Research for Graduate
Students with Disabilities. Many fields of study may be eligible, from
Computer Science, Statistics, and Engineering to Chemistry, Medicine, Health
Policy, and Psychology.

Believed to be the first-of-its-kind in Canada, the scholarship provides an
award of $20,000 and funding for educational disability expenses such as
assistive software and devices. The scholarship committee actively works
with the scholars to support their academic and research success and their
future career goals. The program is made possible by the financial
generosity of the TD Bank Financial Group.

The scholarship is open to students planning to attend McMaster, Ryerson,
University of Toronto, Waterloo, Wilfred Laurier, and York.

The scholarship supports the education and training of masters and doctoral students with disabilities who are studying in a rehabilitation-related field and intend on contributing to rehabilitation science as researchers.

The Toronto Rehabilitation Institute (Toronto Rehab) established the scholarship program in 2005 with a pledge of $300,000 from the TD Bank Financial Group. Started in 2006, the third round of scholarships will be awarded for the 2008/09 academic year.

More than an academic award

Toronto Rehab views the scholarship as more than an academic award. We believe that people with disabilities should be active participants in planning and conducting research. The scholarship is intended to act as a spur to involving people with disabilities in rehabilitation-related research.

“Research is an investment in the future – and so are scholarships,” says Dr. Geoff Fernie, Vice President, Research. “We believe this exciting scholarship will open doors to careers in rehabilitation research for top graduate students."

In addition to providing a monetary award, the Scholarship Committee actively works with each of our scholars to support their academic and research success and their future career goals.
